（中央社2014年7月23日綜合外電報導）颱風麥德姆強襲台灣，美國有線電視新聞網（CNN）今天引述1名追風者說法報導，「台灣基礎設施堅固，挺過強風吹襲，僅造成最輕微結構性損失，此外東南部小鄉鎮發生停電」。

根據CNN報導，麥德姆（Matmo）橫掃台灣，挾帶豪雨、強風，恐有引發土石流之虞。由於風速高達每秒33公尺，使得路樹傾倒、電力中斷，路面遭洪水淹沒。

追風者雷諾茲（James Reynolds）告訴CNN：「大水自山區傾洩而下，使得懸崖掛著瀑布，河流水位暴漲。我看到樹木傾倒，路面汪洋一片，當時實在非常危險。」

雷諾茲說，雖然建物損失仍待評估，但許多建物似乎能抗強風吹襲。

雷諾茲沿著台灣東部海岸駕車北上，他稱此行「並不輕鬆」，因為他必須避開落石與倒下的路樹。

中央氣象局表示，麥德姆暴風圈正逐漸脫離台灣本島，下午5時30分可望解除陸上警報，深夜之後解除海上颱風警報。
